Four of ERWAT’s larger wastewater treatment works (WWTW) were recognised for their achievements at a recent conference hosted by the Water Institute of Southern Africa (WISA). These WWTW’s are Waterval, Olifantsfontein, Dekema and Rondebult.

The Isidigi award is presented by WISA (Water Institute of Southern Africa) bienially to the owner and works manager of wastewater treatment works larger than 25 megalitres per day. During the recent WISA conference held in Mbombela recipients of this award were announced at a gala dinner.

The award is divided and includes two categories, namely best Wastewater Treatment Works and the Most Improved Wastewater Treatment Works.

In both categories certain parameters are used during the evaluation of the WWTW’s, including efforts by owner and works manager, operating efficiency, plant maintenance and servicing, laboratory control, development and improvement, general administration, housekeeping, safety, knowledge, general appearance and professionalism.

In the category for "Best Wastewater Treatment Works" two of ERWAT’s WWTW’s received recognition, namely Dekema that was highly commended and Rondebult that was commended.

In the category for the "Most Improved Wastewater Treatment Works" ERWAT biggest WWTW, Waterval, was announced as the winner while Olifantsfontein was highly commended.

Welgedacht WWTW extended with 50 megalitres per day

AN EXCITING DAY AT WELGEDACHT WASTEWATER TREATMENT WORKS

Excitement filled the air on Monday, 9 May 2016 when the Executive Manager: Operations, Mr Fortune Mabunda, switched on the pumps to start pumping the first wastewater through the new 50 megalitre per day (Mℓ/day) extension at ERWAT’s Welgedacht Wastewater Treatment Works (WWTW).
