2020 Moody’s Credit Opinion on ERWAT

The credit profile of East Rand Water Care Company (ERWAT, Ba1 stable) reflects the company’s close financial and operational links with its support provider, the City of Ekurhuleni (Baa3 stable), which guaranteed 91% of the company’s debt as of 30 June 2018, as well as its legal status as a public-sector entity. The profile also reflects the company’s good financial performance, track record of adhering to budget plans and its deteriorating liquidity.

COVID-19 Update: All of ERWAT’s Water Care Works (WCWs) remain operational during this period

In accordance with the government’s pronouncement of the nation-wide lockdown, all of ERWAT’s Water Care Works (WCWs) remain operational during this period.

The water sector is classified under essential services, meaning that ERWAT could keep our physical premises (plants) open. In view of the regulations by Government regarding Level 5 and 4 of the lockdown, the company implemented a work-from-home strategy for office staff to help ‘flatten the curve’ of coronavirus infections.

The Scientific Services Department (Laboratory) works on a reduced staff complement and rotates staff members to deliver services.

During this period, stakeholders and suppliers are requested to make necessary arrangements when coming to the office to ensure that someone is available to assist.
