The Board of Directors announced recently that Mr Kennedy Chihota has been appointed as Managing Director with effect from 1 September 2022.
The newly appointed Managing Director is well qualified to take over the reins of ERWAT, holding an Honours Degree in Civil Engineering, a Masters Degree in Water Resources Engineering and Management, a Masters Degree in Business Administration, a Masters Degree in Engineering, while he is currently studying towards a Masters Degree in Property Development.
He is registered with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a candidate engineer and registered with the Institute of Civil Engineers as a graduate engineer.
Mr Chihota has a wealth of experience not only in civil engineering, but also in local government. Being previously employed by the City of Ekurhuleni as Divisional Head: Projects and Divisional Head: Strategic Planning, he brings a unique set of skills, perspectives, and relationships to lead the water care company into the future.
Building on the achievements of ERWAT, a municipal entity, Mr Chihota’s leadership will contribute to hone its strategic direction and fulfil its responsibility to provide bulk wastewater conveyance and treatment to some 2 000 industries and more than 3,5 million people. ERWAT is currently the custodian of 19 water care works (WCWs) that are designed to treat a combined capacity of almost 1000 megalitres (Mℓ) of wastewater, both domestic and industrial, per day.
