Mr Tumelo Gopane recently joined ERWAT as Managing Director.

ERWAT provides bulk wastewater conveyance and treatment to some 2 000 industries and more than 3.5 million people, mainly in the Ekurhuleni area. With 19 wastewater treatment works treating a combined capacity of some 700 million litres of wastewater per day, ERWAT has positioned itself to provide sustainable and affordable quality water services.
Before joining ERWAT, Tumelo Gopane was the Deputy Municipal Manager of Infrastructure and Technical Services at the uMhlathuze Local Municipality and also has years of experience in the private sector. With this vast experience in these fields, including water and sanitation, Gopane brings with him a wealth of proven and seasoned professional and personal skills which will blend well with ERWAT’s values, goals and long-term strategies. He holds a BSc Honours in Electrical Engineering and has presented numerous papers both locally and internationally.
Gopane is excited about his role at ERWAT and believes that the company can be taken to even greater heights. “I have a passion for research and development and for innovative methods to optimise operations. Despite the huge water and sanitation challenges that South Africa is facing, I am convinced that we have the skills and expertise to serve our communities and industries and to play a leading role in the water sector as well as the preservation of our precious environment”, he maintains.
